The increase of complexity in metal forming together with thinner paint layers and even missing filler layer lead to higher customer requirements on the surface properties of aluminium strips for the automotive and packaging industry. The AMEPA “SRM” (Surface Roughness Measurement) system enables the customer to continuously measure and control the roughness parameters. The used measurement principle comes closer to the mechanical stylus reference measurement than any other optical measurement device and leads to a correlation between AMEPA´s “SRM” system and stylus in a range of +/-10 %. The optical online roughness measurement gives access to process enhancements and as tool for a more precise indication for the change of the texturing rolls. Beside roughness parameter the user directly gets a picture of the microstructure of his products. This helps to control the texturing process and gives a tool to optimize the surface topography.
To complete customer’s requirements regarding sheet metal surface properties and process control AMEPA also provides an online oil film measurement installation with a measuring range of 0.1 to 5 g/m² oil film layer surface weight. Working principle of the OFM measuring device is the diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Part of the reflected light is detected and evaluated by the OFM sensor or as portable OFIS handheld unit.
