aluminium conference| Korail Launches KTX-Cheongryong: A New Era in High-Speed Rail with Lightweight Aluminium Body

At the recent aluminium conference, Korail unveiled the KTX-Cheongryong, a groundbreaking addition to the high-speed rail sector, capable of reaching speeds up to 320 kilometers per hour. This engineering feat not only epitomizes efficiency and speed but also marks a significant leap forward for South Korea’s rail network. Constructed using lightweight Aluminium, the KTX-Cheongryong ushers in a new era of operational efficiency and sustainability. The strategic use of Aluminium not only reduces the train's overall weight but also decreases the axle load, which can enhance track maintenance and extend its lifespan, aligning perfectly with global net-zero emission goals.

The KTX-Cheongryong commenced service on May 1, heralding a transformative era for high-speed rail travel. It significantly reduces travel times, cutting the journey from Seoul to Busan to just 2 hours and 17 minutes, and from Yongsan to Gwangju Songjeong to an impressive 1 hour and 36 minutes. Korail has ambitious plans to expand its fleet with an additional 17 KTX-Cheongryong trains by 2027 and to fully harness the train’s 320 km/h speed potential by 2028 through targeted infrastructure enhancements.

Furthermore, the KTX-Cheongryong is designed with passenger comfort as a priority, providing a spacious and accommodating environment for all travellers. It features modern amenities such as 220V outlets, wireless chargers, USB ports, and adjustable boarding steps, ensuring a seamless and accessible travel experience. With its cutting-edge capabilities and focus on comfort, the KTX-Cheongryong is poised to redefine standards in global high-speed rail travel.
